technological frontier: The role of knowledge and technology as a basis for success in global markets.

This roundtable will discuss the role of technology in multinationals from emerging
markets. If some of those multinationals are helping to re-shape entire economic sectors and technology is a key issue for companies in general, technology must also play a key role in the development of those multinationals. Additionally, innovation processes of MNCs are having effects on the world economy.

Some of the issues that could be discussed are: Does the internationalization process facilitate innovation? Under what conditions is technology a source of competitive advantage for multinationals? How can we analyze the process of knowledge transfer among subsidiaries located in different countries? Is it possible to find a niche in international markets through innovation? How can technology support the creation of value in the internationalization process. What are the risks involved in abstaining from innovation initiatives in the context of international markets? What role has innovation from BRIC country multinationals played in the international economy? What are the past, current, and future trends on the issues above?
